Fuerte Avocado

Fuerte has smooth, thin green skin that remains green when ripe (unlike Hass which turns dark). It has a more elongated pear shape, milder/cleaner nutty taste, and slightly lower oil content. The thin skin makes it easier to peel but more prone to handling damage. Fuerte is often preferred for salads and sandwiches as slices maintain shape better.

By sea, from the date Kenya's regulator opens the season until it closes it in late October or early November. Openings have ranged from 14 February (2025) to 2 April (2026), and in some years Fuerte opens weeks before Hass. Fuerte's main harvest runs from September to November, so September and October are its peak sea-shipment months. Together, Hass and Fuerte cover Kenya's whole sea season, from March to October.

Since Fuerte skin stays green when ripe, ripeness is determined by gentle pressure. Ripe fruit yields slightly to palm pressure without feeling mushy. The stem button should pop off easily and show green underneath (brown indicates overripe). For retail, we can ship at different ripeness stages to match your turnover rate.

Fuerte avocados are larger than Hass, ranging from 170g to 500g per fruit. We grade by weight categories and pack in 4kg cartons. The larger size makes Fuerte popular with foodservice operators who need consistent slices for plating and value the higher flesh-to-pit ratio.

Yes, mixed Hass/Fuerte containers are available while both are in season, from March to October. Both varieties ship at the same temperature (5-7°C), making consolidated shipments logistically efficient. Mixed containers let you test market preference or serve different customer segments. Minimum per variety is typically 25% of container volume.
